Greetings:
As we start a new semester, let’s start by beginning with the end in mind as you take MC409 Multimedia Reporting class. The goal for most of you is to land a job after graduation. News directors and communications employers are looking for students that are multi-talented. By now you’ve heard the term “backpack journalist,” “One-man Band” or multimedia journalist (MMJ).
Basically it means you have to wear many hats:
This means knowing how to:
- Write
- Shoot
- Edit
- Post Content to Web
If you don’t have these skills, chances are you will not end up with a job. So ask yourself these questions:
- Can I shoot my own stories?
- Can I write a reader story, vo, vosot or package?
- Can I edit my own packages?
- Can I post a story or picture to the web?
- Can I use social media to help tell stories?
- Do I have an online portfolio?
This course will help you sharpen your skills to be able to answer yes to all the above questions so you can become a multi-talented and multi-platform journalist.
Happy storytelling!
